By the same token, you can ask is it necessary for Iranian men to have so much body hair, or gold chains?
What a daft question. How can it be anybody's business that a person wants to have too little or too much make up? Mind your own business and pull your nose out of people's life.
Also, is it necessary for Iranian men to eat too much chelo kabab and develop a chelo-kabab belly that hangs over their belts?
This is all we lacked on this site, our very own cyber version of "gashte Ershad"
Two points:
1. For women, this is a way to oppose the repressive Islamist regime and being defiant
2. As I have many times, you need to visit some of these so-called muslim countries and see how THEIR women 's make up is. It is very thick and very pronounced.
I also want to know if you're a closet islamist.
Dear all
This is a survey question and that is all. Most people who live outside Iran DO SAY makeup is extrime.
What is not surpeising, since I joined this site the same names and the same people who demand democracy still need to learn about democracy and freedomm.
However some of your comments are fair. For example Ex-Cop's first comment is correct BUT I noticed this issue was happening before revolution too.
SO WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED FROM FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
Dear AO
I agree with gold chain BUT what iranians' men body hair has to do with makeup?????
And for your information NOT everyone has chelo-kabab belly that hangs over their belts.

I wouldn't say pull your nose from other people's survey because it is your right to express yourself. AND also it is my legal and democratic right to ask a survey question.
hamal jan
If you read my response to others you will get your response too.
Dear Ex_Cop
I am not sure about your 2nd point as I have not been to all states as you mentioned BUT have a feeling you maybe right on that.
ALSO what is a closet islamist is that suppose to be similar to closet gay??? haha
So my friend when you expect freedom for yourself do expect others have the right to express themselves too.
By the way I did not give anyone likes or dislikes.
Dear AmirKabear
We have very different opinions about the difference between the personal and public affairs and about the borders of free speech.
The amount of makeup that someone may like to put on her face or the dress that she chooses to wear, and in general how she likes to present herself is a personal matter and is no other person's business. A survey or any other material that is posted in a public media is a public matter and therefore I have the right to push my nose into it.
Free speech does not equate with irresponsible speech. If I asked "Don't you think black people should not wear red shirts?" then I am not practicing free speech but am being abusive and infringing on other people's rights. Therefore our moral values should draw the red lines for us.
No one however denied you the free speech. Free speech does not mean that no one can criticise what you said or take the opposite view. We need to distinguish between criticism and censorship.
At the end I would like to thank you for demonstrating free speech and not deleting my comment which would have been censorship.

Thank you for your essay.
It is clear that you have NOT understood the point of a survey. A survey does NOT represent a person's personality.
At least follow what you preach. You judge for yourself;
Free speech does not equate with irresponsible speech.
"What a daft question. How can it be anybody's business that a person wants to have too little or too much make up?"
THIS HAPPENS AGAIN AMD AGAIN ON THIS SITE. DEMOCRACY IS A TWO WAY POLICY.
Dear AmirKabear
Sorry that you have been forced to read more than three lines.
Unfortunately that survey shows that you think that other people's appearance is part of your business. That adversely resonates with me and all other Iranians who have been suffering from exactly the same interference of self righteous people in their lives.
With regards to my response if you read any serious review or debate you can see that good critics avoid any window dressing and call a daft idea a daft idea or a nosy person, a nosy person. I normally measure my responses and I think your survey demanded a strong response.
End of the second essay.

FOR THE VERY LAST TIME THIS IS JUST A SURVEY AND IF YOU TRY TO STUDY SOME OF THE OTHER SURVEYS YOU WILL SEE THEY DO HAVE A TOUCH OF SOME SORT OF CURIOUSITY IN THEM.
I am sorry you do not see it that way because from now on I will remind you when there are such surveys.
"And for your information NOT everyone has chelo-kabab belly that hangs over their belts."
See the problem now Amirkabear (wait a minute...I just noticed...why do you spell AmirKabir's name with a "bear" suffix?!! Is is a polar or a black bear?!) Anyway...just like not every Iranian man has a chelo kabab belly, not every Iranian woman puts on a lot of makeup. That's the problem with your survey: the stereotyping which is indicative of a ceratin male Middle eastern mentality.
And as for the body hair, sorry..but most Iranian men look like Clebes crested macaques when they take their shirts off...
I don't really know if the excessive use of make-up is true for the majority of Iranian women (and recently men) but usually too much pre-occupation with one's outer looks is directly proportional to lack of inner qualities.
Just look at what in California goes for so-called Iranian music, male singers with pink lipsticks and eyebrows that are envy of many of their female counterparts, and women short of using embalming fluids to preserve their "looks." And the sorry fact that almost none can perform for alive audiences without embarassing themselves. Money for nothing...
