This update is considered a major one, although a good portion of the update is internal and not visible by users. The additions visible to users is as follows:
1. New Photo Album Viewing. There is now a full-screen viewing for a better user experience. A new link "View Full-screen Album". Once clicked, a full-screen album gallery will show up. Use right and left arrow icons to navigate through the photos in the album. Ypou can also page through the pictures by moving youe mouse to left and right (a mobile device experience). Click the "X" icon to exit full-screen viewing.
If full-screen view is inactive after a while, simply click the screen once and the navigation icons (left and right and X) appear again.
Notice that full-screen viewing is a javascript-based activity event. This means that if you are in full-screen viewing and you click the "back" button in your browser, you actually are taken back to the previous page on the site. To exit full-screen viewing gracefully, either click the "X" icon or press the "esc" key on your keyboard.
2. Photo page in an Album. Left and right arrows now appear outside the photo. This improves user experience by not clicking the image, which used to display the image in full size. Now, if image area is clicked, the page refreshes and the next photo is displayed. To view the image in full size, click the link "View full size" at the top right corner of the image.
3. Ignore List. This is a new addition. Logged-in users can now ignore users they don't wish to see their posts or comments. This functionality is per user, that is, it is not applied by Site Admin.
A link labeled as "Ignore" appears under users' avatars. Once clicked, a panel opens and you can check one of both Post and Comments checkboxes. Click "Submit" button. The page refreshes and now ignored user's posts (or comments) disappear. Note that if you are on a detail page for a post type (say, a Blog Detail page), and you click "Ignore" to ignore the author of the blog, the page refreshes, but this time the Blog summary page will be displayed.
You can recall posts and/or comments of a previously ignored user by going to User Admin, section Ignore List. You will see a list of your ignored users. You can decide to recall posts or comments or both posts and comments of any user.
Also, notice at the top of the Ignore List page, there is a checkbox labeled as "Show Ignore Link below each user avatar." By default, it was set to checked for every user, when the site was updated. If you do not intend to ignore any user and you do not wish to keep seeing the "Ignore" link under every user's avatar, simply uncheck this checkbox and click the "Save" button next to it. You will not be able to ignore any user. To be able to ignore any user, uncheck this checkbox.
4. New Logo. The logo of
iroon.com logo is changed. In the next day the logo will also be updated in other sections of the site where logo is utilized.
Next: We are close to finishing work on the mobile browser. But more importantly we are starting to redesign the front page. We acknowledge that the user interface has been too much on the experimental side and the experiment has not been what we were hoping for. The new design will incorporate tried-and-tested elements of the most successful web sites.
Thanks for the update.
Have you considered giving more rooms to blogs at the expense of surveys? Currently almost 50% of the front page is taken over by surveys. More room for blogs could potentialy encourage more blogs and bloggers.
The logo is terrible. It shows Iroon is dissolving or covered in mess, and you cannot see the letter N. Symbolically wrong. I bet a good dollar the person who designed it is not the sharpest tool in the box.
I think the idea of "ignoring" someone's posts and comments altogether is good. I tried to "ignore" some for good so that the website becomes cleansed but it didn't work! It allowed me to pick "Posts" and "Comments" but then it took me to a page that says "You don't have permission to see this page" and the ignored remained and noone is put in my ignore list! WTF?!
Good eye Bambi. Metaphorically speaking the logo catches on the chronic condition of the website and on a larger scale about Ira....
The new logo looks like a blue fried egg!
Holy moly! I just used the iPad and I was able to "ignore" some! Awesome! The website is now cleansed from how I can see it now! Suddenly more worthwhile!
