Boris Johnson's great grandfather was Ottoman Kemal Ali Bey, born in Constantinople, now Istanbul, in 1867 to a Circassian (Cherkes) mother.
Mr Kemal died on November 6, 1922, after being kidnapped from a barber shop at Tokatilyan Hotel in Istanbul, and transported to the Asiatic side of the city by boat.
Mr Kemal was attacked, and lynched by a mob incited by General Nureddin with sticks, stones and knives, and hanged from a tree.
