I just felt like sharing a couple of fun facts about mandatory hejab with you folks. There are only two countries that have mandatory hejab rules in the world: Saudi Arabia and Iran. Let’s take a quick peek at how those laws came about in each country.
First, Saudi Arabia: hejab, both mandatory and traditionally, has been a part of the Arabian Bedouin culture for thousands of years. After all, that country is the birthplace of Islam. So, no surprise that hejab is mandatory there.
Next, Iran: up until 36 years ago, hejab was not mandatory. Women dressed as they wished. But somehow, inexplicably, they, along with their husbands, brothers, fathers, and sons, poured onto the streets and brought about a regime that made wearing the hejab mandatory for them. So, in essence, they voluntarily imposed mandatory hejab upon themselves. Why did they do it? No one is really sure. But this IQ chart could be illustrative of the reason(s) why they did it.
PS- You know how Iranians always say that Afghanis are backwards? You also know how Iranian women must wear a compulsory hejab, cannot be singers, and cannot attend sports events? Well, check out this video. Who’s backward now?
Triple G: Gaavs, Goosalehs, and Goosfands -- no offense intended to the ruminants of the world.
Brother Observer.
Let me explain this delicate subject of hejaab by the way of telling you an amazing but true story.
about 9 months ago a regular customer of my kabab shop (the take out section) a man of cuban origin called brother adolfo, asked me why do we muslem people force our women to wear hejaab? I told him no brother. we dont force our women. we do it out of love. to keep them out of harms way. just the way you have been covering your brand new toyota camry whilst parked. to prevent the kids in the neighborhood seeing it and touching it and harming it.
he put his kebaab down. went into deep thought. tears flowing down his face. and shouted Allah Akabar.Allah Akbar.
I tell you brother it was a great moment for me. and all those around. He is now a muslem brother. fully circumcized. his name chenged to gholam hossein. praying every friday in our mosque.
I hope this story will have the same impact on some brothers and sisters here. opening their eyes up to true eslam. the religion of love and peace.
Ensha Allah.
AO you may be into some thing. I believe all the progress made in 1960's and 70's sort of made many us loosing touch with reality and not seeing or ignoring the fact that how backward and traditional Iran was.
Dear MRX- The irony is that Shah was the one who instilled this idea of cultural supriority in the Iranian population. he made them believe that they were somehow better and smarter than the rest of the population in the neighborhood---which they were not. That fasle belief that they were actually smart and hence they could come up with a better system than the Shah's empowered them to pour onto the streets like rabid animals and destroy everything that was built for decades and revert back to the time of Qajar, their only saving grace being that the poor Shah had already built them a sewer system, banks, roads, airports, a military, hospitals, schools, etc. Otherwise, it would have been back to pooping in buckets, going to maktab for their education, riding their donkeys to work, and seeing a dallak when they got sick. I really wish Shah hadn't done all those things. It would have been fun to see where Iran would be now.
AO , if there was no pahlavi modernization and Qajar gave birth straight to Islamic republic , iranian women would have had as much right as a goat just like their slave foremothers in bazars of medina . the whole ommatie fuss of 79 was to change perspective & ommatize the future generations, to look south than north , to change universal cooperation with Arabislamic coop, . & just like the post-qadesiyeh Iran they stole the remnanats of that industrial-scientific achievments & claimed it as their own . ie, in Gorgan many scientific elite families involved for generations in Chemistry, astronomy etc were massacred and most their research burnt as Zandigh by Arab commander Jaaber & a 100 yrs later we find a few surviving books translated in arabic as achievemnt of islamic science in baghdad . as i said the whole idea was to change Kavad to Seyyed javad(no offence to our seyyed brother :)).
& they kinda succeeded as you see in Arbaeen husseini 5 million goats breakin doors & border posts to rush to karbala to sacrifice another goat for their bott.
Right on dear Samsam. Just look at where the IR originated from: Najaf, South Lebanon and Palestinian operatives in South Lebanon. Their stated mission--which they have not even hidden for the past 36 years--has been to eradicate the Persian identity and replace it with their Arabo-Shiite vision. Sad...
We Iranians have been perfecting assbackwardness for a good while now.
