I deal with these guys all the time.........."interesting" bunch.

The oil wealth has transformed the desert nation into a somewhat modern place with modern infrastructure and all, but the mentality and opressive nature of the culture is deep, very deep.  The country has actually gone backward since the 70-80's from social and cultural standpoint. Just last month one of the clerics there compared women who work in mixed gender places to prostiutes and their husbands to Dayyoos! (didn't know that was an arbaic word, but appraently, it is) for being weak.

There are about 7-8 million expats who live KSA and work menial jobs (their words). Saudis treat them like dirt even though most of them are muslims! I thought in Islam everybody is equal...yeah, right!

Goes to show you that it is not the money in your pocket that enlightens you, but what is contained between your ears and what influences it.
