Historically and in general (by far) the trend for form of government has been from monarchy to republic, conssidering this undeniable fact then why do you think that the monarchist have a hard time to give up an out of date ideology?

My view of Pahlavi era in general is a positive one. They did their historical duty to put Iran on the right path for prosperity and becoming a republic is a natural progression. The first duty of a new republic in free Iran is to pay respect and honor them for their contributions and move on.

I'm not a monarchist, and do not want advocate for another monarchy in Iran.  But your survey can equally apply to communism / socialism, which has collapsed in the majority of former communits nations in favor of capitalism.  But still you see a lot of people, especially stuck-in-the-60's "revolutiobary" Iranians advocating for communism.

You have a legitimate point. Good subject for another survey. My reasoning for picking this subject was based on my personal observation about dominating debate on this site.

The return of the constitutional monarchy to Iran will have at least one great benefit.

I just love to see the expression on the faces of the old Islamo-Commies, Marxists and Confederation rioters who still cannot have peace of mind without blaming everything on the late Shah and Reza Shah. Those suckers will just have to take their hatred to their graves!

Amen!

Hahaha, I can see that I have hit a nerve. Never mind my English. Stick to the subject if you have anything to contribute.I'm getting tired of this game of changing subjects when you have got nothing to say. It is annoying to say the least.

Dear Mehrban, thank you for your direct and to the point reply. I must say that your description of Iranian monarchists was one of the best that I have read. My question is what do we need monarchy anywhere in the world? Why can't a nation be a symbol of its unity instead of paying up to their nose so that a bunch of good for nothing ugly bastards live in extreme luxury? The monarchists argument has always been that the amount of charity money that the royal family brings in will make up for their cost of living. I would like to see a comparison between the amount of money raised and donated by people like Bill Gates, Michael J. Fox and a numerous other working people verses what the royal families in U.K., Spain,...... bring to the table.

why give up an ideology that works and have worked? Monrachy in its modern form , the consitutional Monarchy is as democratic as any so called Republican form of government out there. The issue is not simply have a monarchy to raise money as in your example with Bill gates and so on, the issue is to have a sense of continuity, pride , prestige,  history and unity.

Dear MRX, I challenge you to show me why the unity cannot be achieved under a republic. As for pride, prestige and history I suffice to 3 words: Iran, Egypt Greece.

We can be the oldest monarchy based country in the world with a sense of countinuity, prestegie and pride with it's bells and whistles  shooting for modernity or we can be a newly created thirld world style republic like IRI , Syria, Greece and egypt. I opt for number one option (Personal preference)!

Why do you think Japanese kept their emperor?  Surley toyota and Nissan  brings more money to Japan than their emperor!

Come on dear, what do we have in common with Japan? Work ethics? Honor? Loyalty? Japan is JAPAN because of a value system that has nothing to do with whether they are a kingdom or not. Furthormre, may I present you with capitalist China that once was a great kingdom. How much prestige Nepal or Jordan or even a bankrupt Spain have in today's world? The bitter truth is that we are living in a materialistic world. The only thing that will bring us pride and prestige is money.

Really so why did the Japaense decide to hold on their emperor then?  according to your way of thinking prestige=money. I would say in that case Khameni, rafsenjani and Babak Zanjani are very prestigous people and brought lots of pride, joy and honor to our society!

Omatestan (Formerly known as Iran) is a Republic now and it has tons of money (100 dollars per barrel of oil at last count) so you can probably explain why we do not have prestige, honor, respect and dignity. Don't feel bad though any kind of republic over there will end up with the same results!

No point dragging on this conversation though, my vision of Iran far different than Shiekh/omati, greeny, mko, meli mazhabi, capitalistic  version being promoted now and days but I admit I am in the minority. So I close the conversion wishing best of luck with your Republic.

If I may say one last word, yes those guys that you mentioned have lots of money earned through stealing from us the people. Nature of our discution was a government not an individual. Good luck to you too. May the best system win.

When the dust settles, Iranians will undoubtedly question the wisdom behind the regime’s nuclear ambitions and “anti-imperialist” rhetoric — especially the staggering costs they’ve imposed on the country’s people and resources. But right now, the deeper outrage lies in the impunity that Trump’s words granted Israel’s war machine to violate Iran’s sovereignty, victimize civilians and dismantle the country’s infrastructure without constraint. —Asef Bayat
