IranWire:

A political prisoner held at Bukan Central Prison in northwestern Iran died of cardiac arrest after prison officials ignored his deteriorating health condition.

Kaveh Ahmadzadeh’s body was transferred to the forensic medical center in Urmia for autopsy and returned to his family on Monday without any explanation for the cause of death.

Prison officials delayed notifying Ahmadzadeh’s family of his death by around 24 hours, HRANA human rights organization reported.

Ahmadzadeh had spent nearly 10 years in Iranian prisons for political activities.

The report did not specify when Ahmadzadeh suffered the cardiac arrest or provide details about his medical condition before his death.

Human rights groups have repeatedly documented poor medical care and the denial of treatment for political prisoners in Iranian prisons.
