Hydrofoils are wings attached to the hulls of boats. They were first invented 160 years ago.

They have traditionally added significantly to the speed of boats. But their development has often suffered from cost issues.

Now though, a combination of new designs and materials, and a new wave of powerful electric vehicles,

Could bring a renaissance for hydrofoils that make boats "fly."
