The Islamic Republic's authorities have sentenced the mothers of two victims of the 2019 protest crackdown to a combined 18 months in prison.

Lawyer Reza Shafakhah reported that the second branch of the Shahriar Revolutionary Court sentenced Mahbobeh Ramezani, mother of Pejman Qolipour, and Rahimeh Yousefzadeh, mother of Navid Behbodhi, to a total of 18 months and one day in prison.

Both mothers lost their sons during the November 2019 protests. Shafakhah stated, "Unfortunately, the court has sentenced each mother to six months for 'propaganda against the Islamic Republic,' six months for 'membership in the group of mothers of Aban 98 victims,' and an additional six months and one day for 'insulting the leadership.'"

Ramezani and Yousefzadeh have been vocal plaintiffs seeking justice for their children, who were killed during widespread protests triggered by the government's sudden decision to raise gas prices in November 2019.

Both women have previously been arrested and interrogated multiple times by the security and judicial authorities of the Islamic Republic.
