On the Threshold of Blindness

There are ruins left of my world
Covered in heavy morning fog.
Dragging my feet, I pass through rubble,
Stop in front of a rising ground
And ask myself that this pile
Has the mark of which house.

Suddenly, an opening turns into a gate
And the fragments of a wall into a majestic castle.
The dusty trees wash their faces
And a horse neighs from the fog.
Koroghlu* has arrived
To lift me from the ground
And take me to open meadows.

Ah! The world is getting color again,
Ghosts return to their bodies
And speak with their shining eyes.

So that the world does not ruin me
I rebuild it through my own eyes.

*- Koroghlu in Turkish means “son of the blind”. In Turkic folktales, he is a Robin-Hood-like hero whose father was blinded by the Sultan.

در آستانه‌ی کوری

از جهانم ويرانه‌هايي مانده است
پوشيده در مِه سنگينِ بامدادي.
پاكِشان از ميان آوار مي‌گذرم
در برابر تلواره‌ای  مي‌ايستم
و از خود مي‌پرسم که این كوت
نشان از كدام خانه دارد.

ناگهان گشوده‌گاهی به دروازه‌اي بدل مي‌شود
و پاره‌های ديواری به بارويي با‌شكوه.
درختانِ خاك‌آلود رخ مي‌شويند
و اسبي از درون مِه شيهه مي‌كشد.
كوراوغلو* از راه رسيده است
تا مرا از زمين برگيرد
و با خود به دشتهاي باز برسانَد.

آه! جهان دوباره رنگ بر‌مي‌گيرد
اشباح به كالبدهاي خود باز‌مي‌گردند
و با چشمانِ رخشانشان سخن مي‌گويند.

تا جهان مرا ويران نسازد
من جهان را به چشم خود باز‌مي‌سازم.

*- "کوراوغلو", قهرمان افسانه‌ی ترکی, را به این دلیل "پسر کور" خواندند که پدرش به دستور سلطان کور شده بود.
