The Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans, PAAIA
Last night, on June 21, 2025, the United States launched coordinated air and naval strikes on nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan in Iran. This marks a dangerous escalation in an already volatile region. We now face a moment of profound uncertainty with far-reaching consequences.
We urge the U.S. government to work urgently for an immediate ceasefire to stop the conflict now, stabilize the region, and provide humanitarian assistance to the Iranian people.
Our thoughts are with courageous U.S. service members now in harm’s way and their families. We are equally concerned for the countless civilians whose lives are at risk. The Iranian people – already enduring authoritarian rule and severe economic hardship prior to last week's Israeli military attacks – must not be forced to bear the additional burden of further escalating geopolitical conflict.
The Iranian American community holds deep bonds to loved ones in Iran. PAAIA’s independent surveys show that a large majority maintain regular contact with family and friends in the country. These deep connections underscore the urgency of separating the Iranian people from the ruling regime. For decades, the Iranian people have demonstrated their desire for democratic freedoms, dignity, and peaceful engagement with the world. They remain among the most pro-American population in the Middle East.
Now more than ever, U.S. policymakers must reaffirm their support for these aspirations. This includes ensuring Iranians have access to uncensored internet and information tools (through the implementation of the Iran Internet Freedom Act and the IRAN Act) that allow them to stay informed and connected with the global community.
Here at home, we call on leaders to protect the civil liberties of Iranian Americans. We know from experience that international crises often trigger discrimination, profiling, and suspicion. This must not happen again. Any targeting based on national origin, heritage, or perceived political affiliations must be condemned swiftly and unequivocally.
At this critical moment, PAAIA urges the administration and Congress to end the conflict and exhaust all efforts to prevent a deadlier regional war. American strength is measured not only by military power but by the wisdom to choose pathways to peace where conflicts loom.
