To a Green Painter

        To Nooshin

At the Pacific shore
I am wavering
Between Ferdowsi’s couplet
And your installation art
Which you made yesterday
In the salt deserts of Jarquyeh*
With cardamom seed pods and red petals
But before anyone passed by
Scattered in the wind.

Is art play for children
Or labor for immortality?
In the span of two tides
I write this couplet on the sand
With my walking stick:
I built a high castle in verse
Which the wind and rain will not harm.”*

به يك نگارگر سبز

        به نوشین

بر لبِ آبهاي "آرام"
در كِشاكِشم
ميانِ بيتي از فردوسي
و چيدماني از تو
كه ديروز آفريدي
در نمكزارهاي جرقويه
با هِلدانه‌ها و گلبرگهاي سرخ
اما پيش از اينكه كسي بگذرد
باد آنرا پراكند.

آيا هنر، بازيِ كودكان است
يا رنجي براي جاودانگي؟
در فاصله‌ي ميان دو خيزاب
اين بيت را با چوبدستيَم
بر ماسه‌ها مي‌نويسم:
"پي افكندم از نظم، كاخي بلند
كه از باد و باران نيابد گزند."
