AmyGetsLit: With tensions between Iran and the rest of the world reaching an all-time high, I created a list of non-fiction book recommendations on Iran. I've included books by individuals imprisoned in Iran because their experiences speak to systematic problems and the oppression of political voices. They also offer small details about every day life inside Iran. The other books are written by those that have lived, worked, or traveled to Iran that offer context on ordinary life, the government, the culture, and the society and give nice insights that you don't ordinarily see in news reporting about Iran.

Books included are:

Prisoner of Tehran: One Woman's Story of Survival Inside an Iranian Prison by Marina Nemat
In My Prison, My Home: One Woman's Story of Captivity in Iran by Dr. Haleh Esfandiari
