A political prisoner with serious health problems was hospitalized on Tuesday after falling in a prison bathroom and injuring her head and face.

Raheleh Rahemipour, 73, held at Qarchak Prison in Varamin, lost her balance in the bathroom and fell, the Human Rights Activists News Agency reported.

She was taken to Mofteh Hospital in Varamin due to her poor physical condition. The prisoner suffers from severe headaches and was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor.

She has had several heart attacks in recent years and underwent angioplasty. Rahimipour was arrested in October 2023 and initially held at Evin Prison.

She was transferred to Qarchak with dozens of other female prisoners after an Israeli attack on Evin.

She was sentenced to more than six years for “assembly, conspiracy, and propaganda against the Islamic Republic.”

The sentence was reduced to four years and two months after a retrial. Her brother, Hossein Rahimipour, was executed in 1983.

She has spent years seeking information about her nephew, who disappeared after being born in Evin Prison.
