Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the former president of Iran, was killed in US and Israeli strikes on Tehran, Iranian state media reported. Earlier reports on Saturday said three of his bodyguards were killed when strikes hit near his home in Tehran’s Narmak district, but that the former president had survived. Ahmadinejad served as Iran’s president from 2005 to 2013, winning elections as an outsider who promised to “bring oil money to people’s tables” and govern as “a man made from the people’s essence”.
