IranWire:

An Iranian teachers' union expressed concern on Friday over the whereabouts of a labor activist who was detained during a rally in May, saying authorities have provided no information about his condition for the past 22 days.

Mehdi Farahi was arrested on May 1 during International Workers' Day gatherings in Iran, according to the Coordinating Council of the Iranian Teachers' Union.

The group reported that security forces beat Farahi during his arrest.

According to reports, an officer sat on the activist’s stomach inside a police van during his detention, causing physical injury.

The teachers' union said Farahi’s family has visited Evin Prison multiple times this week but has received no information regarding his health or location.

"This level of complete silence is not only a clear violation of prisoners’ basic rights, but also once again demonstrates the lawless and repressive nature of the ruling system," the union said in a statement.

The group noted that Farahi suffers from diabetes and other illnesses developed during previous imprisonments in Iran.

It also voiced concern about his access to medical care while in detention.

The union demanded Farahi’s immediate and unconditional release and held security forces and prison officials responsible for any harm that may come to him.
