Ruthless Gods

Outside, the warm wind of Santa Ana
Ruthlessly blows
And brings coughing and itching.
I am fallen in bed
Thinking of the world
Which has given its heart
To ruthless saints.
In Iran, the deputies of Allah still shed blood,
In America, the evangelists
Have voted for a con artist
To start Armageddon
   And in Israel, the criminals
Are inspired by the stories of the Old Testament
For massacring children in Gaza.
I detest the world
Which has given its heart
To ruthless gods
But suddenly the sound of a soft ring makes me jump.
My son has heard the sound of my coughs
From miles away
And has ordered bone marrow broth for me.
I let go of ruthless gods
And splash some water to my face
So that before the delivery man
Hands me the package of kindness
I will be ready.

خدایان بی‌رحم

در بیرون, باد گرم "آنای قدیس"
بی‌رحمانه می‌وزد
و با خود سرفه و خارش می‌آورد.
من در بستر افتاده‌ام
و به جهانی می‌اندیشم
که قلب خود را
به قدیسان بی‌رحم داده است.
در ایران جانشینان الله همچنان خون می‌ریزند
در آمریکا بشارتگران مسیحی
به شیادی رای داده‌اند
تا نبرد آخر‌زمانی را آغاز کند
و در اسرائیل جانیان برای کشتار کودکان غزه
از داستانهای تورات الهام می‌گیرند.
من از جهانی که قلب خود را
به خدایان بی‌رحم داده است
بیزارم.
اما ناگهان صدای نرمه‌زنگی مرا از جا می‌جهاند
پسرم صدای سرفه‌هایم را
از فرسنگها دور شنیده
و برایم آب مغز استخوان سفارش داده است.
خدایان بی‌رحم را رها می‌کنم
و آبی به صورتم می‌زنم
تا پیش از این که پیک
بسته‌ی محبت را بدستم دهد
آماده باشم.
