Once again, I was astounded by the AI in ChatGPT. Recently, while visiting my son's family in another state, I was deeply moved by a sweet and remarkable act performed by my 10-year-old granddaughter, June. Inspired to capture the moment in writing, I aimed for a concise and impactful expression, choosing the poetic format.

In my mind, the best definition of poetry comes from the renowned American poet of the 20th century, Robert Frost, who stated, "Poetry is when emotion has found its thought, and thought has found words." With this understanding, I found that my emotions had found their thoughts, and thus, I sought words to convey them. I penned my feelings as a poem, without much focus on rhyme and rhythm, opting for a simpler expression.

Then, it occurred to me that I could benefit from the assistance of AI. I copied and pasted my poem into ChatGPT, requesting it to add rhyme and rhythm. Astonishingly, within a mere five seconds, I received the AI's rendition of my poem. It was absolutely fantastic and truly unbelievable! The remarkable aspect is that AI possesses the ability to regenerate and refine one's work until satisfaction is achieved.

I should note that AI was unable to perform the same task for my Persian version of the poem. Hence, there remains hope for poets in languages other than English.

Below, you will find both my original version and the AI- generated renditions of my poem.

Here is the original:

Visiting June

Recently, I visited my sons family.

I took three identical, shiny bracelets

For my granddaughter, June

Who is ten-year-old

As a gift.

While she was happy of receiving them

And smiling, without any pause,

She gave one to her mother

One to me and

Kept one for herself, and said:

“ So, whenever,

We have these on

We will think of the other ones,

And we call it :

The Friendship bracelet!

Since then, I cannot look at the bracelet

Without, affectionately, thinking of the other two!

What a lovely and pure gesture!

She , definitely, outsmarted her grandma!

Here are the two AI-generated renditions of the  poem:

Poem 1

In a visit to my son's family, so dear,

I brought bracelets, shiny and clear,

For my granddaughter, June, ten years old,

A precious gift, their beauty untold.

With joy, she received them, her smile so bright,

And without hesitation, she shared with delight,

One for her mother, one for me,

And one for herself, a gift full of glee.

She spoke with warmth, her voice so sweet,

"When we wear these, our hearts will beat,

Connected forever, through time and space,

These Friendship bracelets, a bond we embrace."

Now, as I gaze upon the bracelet, so fine,

Thoughts of the others, intertwined,

A reminder of love, so tender and true,

June, my granddaughter, outsmarted me too.

Her simple gesture, pure and refined,

Forever in my heart, it's enshrined,

The love we share, a treasure untold,

Through the Friendship bracelet, our souls unfold.

Poem 2

In a visit to my son's dear kin,

I brought bracelets, shiny and thin,

For June, my granddaughter so fair,

A gift to show her how much I care.

With joy, she received the precious bands,

And wore them, adorning her hands,

One for her mother, one for me,

And one for herself, a joyful decree.

She spoke with innocence, so tender,

"These bracelets, a bond we'll always remember,

When we wear them, side by side,

Thoughts of each other will never hide."

Now, these bracelets hold a special place,

A symbol of love, woven with grace,

For whenever I glimpse at that jewelry's sheen,

Thoughts of my family fill my heart's serene.

How clever and wise, this young soul,

Outsmarting her grandma's role,

Her friendship bracelet, a cherished token,

A bond unbroken, forever unspoken.
