America! Tear up This Bloody Amendment
By Majid Naficy
After the mass shooting in Orlando
Every time a lunatic shoots a gun
And kills innocent people
The lawmakers split in two camps:
One speaks of mental health
And the other of gun control,
But no action is taken.
Only the sale of guns goes up
With the number of petitions on the Internet.
How long should we stay spectators?
America! Tear up this bloody amendment.
Merchants of death say that the Second Amendment
Protects the lives of citizens
Against the federal government
And petty criminals.
But it is only a lie
To cover up their dirty hands.
To fight against despotism
We only need consciousness and organization
And to stand against crime
We need courts, police and rehabilitation
Not citizens with guns at their waists.
How long should we stay spectators?
America! Tear up this bloody amendment.
A gun, like chocolate and chips,
Is something tempting.
If you want to protect your family
Do not keep guns at home.
Many people have killed their partners
Because of sudden impulses
And teenagers have ended their lives
By their families’ revolvers.
Ah, I am tired of this situation.
If I had a handgun
I might have killed myself
Instead of writing this poem.
How long should we stay spectators?
America! Tear up this bloody amendment.

Mo H Saidi:
Thanks for Sharing. And this is my poem & note:
It's shocking for you & me & the millions of Americans who wonder how many more pupils, youth, Blacks, Jews, & innocent citizens should be killed needlessly by the guns and for the country to wake up & do something to stop these massacres? It happens Time and Again. I fear going through the daily paper lest I encounter reports of another mass shooting!
And here is the poem I wrote for the 19 Uvalde Pupils in which several literary friends asked me to send it to out. I am forwarding for your attention & read:
Time and Again
In South Chicago, the pupils
are safer in school―there, they
are protected from street violence
in school, they get warm lunch & books
and learn how to be civil.
In Uvalde, the gun enters the school
changes the classrooms into the shooting range.
The pupils are the live target for live ammunition
the next-door gun store gives a discount
on buying guns and bullets.
Fallen pupils aren’t faking death.
Nowhere to hide here in America
in schools, churches, and malls, dying
is not fictional as in the Western movies
the guns are loaded to kill.
In my neighborhood
Black youth are hesitant to drive cars
they avoid intersections
they don’t change lanes in the byways
hide in the dark when they see police.
And in Uvalde, the pupils mustn’t return
to school, the parents mustn’t drive them
to the malls: in America, the youth are confused
wandering to find a haven from the
neighborhoods, malls & their schools.

Bravo, Majid! I applaud your poem about our “Bloody Amendment” and would actually be satisfied if Congress could at least pass some legislation limiting the proliferation of guns especially to anyone under the age of 21 and bans “weapons of mass destruction”.
Your fan,
Mohsen:
Majid Jan I read your poem very touching
