Dear Vaccine
By Majid Naficy
In response to Naomi Shihab Nye’s Prompt*
Dear Vaccine,
It’s too late for Vahab
But you can save his wife and daughter.
They still water his roses
And feed his canaries
But cannot watch his last video again
When he tried to teach his class on Zoom
And his coughs were more than his words.

Majid jan. I received your vaccine poem as I was having the first dose of filzer- Bionteck and was in Wirtin room. Nice surprise as I read it. I felt sorry that Vahab did not have the chance to get his vaccine.I sent your poem to Vahab's wife in Isfahan.

With appreciation,

I read your heart aching poem " Dear Vaccine " and it seems cruel to say I enjoyed something beautiful about something so painful.
Here(in Egypt) it's still immensely slow vaccinations and nearly zero.. plus what remains is Astrazeneca.. and still registering. Also cases surged in a surreal way.
