Charlie Hebdo Dedicates Issue to Iran's Uprising

IranWire: French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo has announced the publication of a special issue dedicated to the second anniversary of Iran's Woman, Life, Freedom movement.

The special edition, set to feature research, reports, and interviews, will focus on the women's rights movement sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini in September 2022.

Charlie Hebdo shared preview images from the issue.

"Since the murder of Mahsa Amini, Charlie has been following the ongoing revolution in Iran," the magazine said in a post on X.

"Find our research, reports, and interviews in a special edition dedicated to the Woman, Life, Freedom Movement," it added.

Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish woman, died while in the custody of Iran’s morality police after being detained for wearing her hijab “improperly.” Her death sparked nationwide protests, which became known as the Woman, Life, Freedom movement.

Charlie Hebdo has been a vocal supporter of the Iranian protest movement, consistently publishing related content. The magazine's cartoons and commentary have made it a target of criticism and even sanctions from the Iranian government.

Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously imposed sanctions on several individuals, including Charlie Hebdo’s editor-in-chief.
