Barr's Little Memo Is Like Soggy Toilet Paper

Chloris Creator: Two weeks ago, Robert Mueller delivered his report to Trump toady Attorney General William Barr, who then proceeded to write a little memo that was supposed to paper over the actual report. The main takeaways from the Barr memo are: "Nothing to see here! I've read it, so you don't have to!"

Now that certainly suited Trump, who we know doesn't like to read anything that doesn't have his name in it (which means that he actually might find the Mueller report rather interesting). And it certainly suited the Republicans, many of whose future careers depend on Donald. Although most Republicans in the House voted for releasing the report, Republican Senators have not been so brave. They don't want the report released. And I expect a lot of them don't want to read it, either, even before we all discovered that it is close to 400 pages, excluding appendices, boxes of transcripts and who knows what else.

But it turns out that Barr's little memo was bought at the TrumpStore, you know, the outfit where they take your money and deliver an inferior product. Instead of high quality, durable wallpaper, Barr's little memo is turning out to have the consistency of flimsy toilet paper, falling apart with the first exposure to moisture. In fact Barr has already had to take back his guarantee, where "here's my summary" has been amended to say "I never meant it to be a summary."

Barr wants to keep anyone else from reading the Mueller report. Unfortunately for him, others have already read that report. Mueller, of course. And Rosenstein. And many of the people who worked for Mueller. And some of them, at least, are not happy with what has been going on. And so they are leaking. Has this been done with Mueller's blessing? Very likely yes, since there was no leaking before. But maybe not. I don't know. Perhaps it's a strategy to put pressure on Barr.

I know that two weeks ago we all were disappointment by no new indictments (even if they didn't arrest the pres, certainly Jared and Junior deserve to be frog-marched to cells). And then we freaked as the MSM seemed to accept Trump's declaration of "complete exoneration," (even though Barr's memo said the opposite). Republicans in the House were sufficiently emboldened to demand that Rep. Adam Schiff resign his chairmanship from the House Intelligence Committee, allowing Schiff to turn the mild-looking words "I don't think that's OK" into a walloping rebuke.

But as I wrote in several comments, this is a bit like November 2018, when it first appeared that the blue wave for which we had worked had not materialized. But the trickle turned into a tsunami. I think we're going to see the same thing here, and that it could be devastating. Devastating for them, you know, not for us.

Remember how rattled Trump was before the report came out? He has a pretty good idea of what could be in there. Giuliani said something similar before, that it could be terrible for Trump.

Barr can't completely stop the release of the report. And there are plenty on Mueller's team, including Mueller himself, who could be subpoenaed. The truth is out there, and most of it will come out, in enough time to damage Trump and I expect a few toady Republicans.

That doesn't mean we can relax. We have lots of fighting to do. We are the heroes we have been waiting for.

So get fortified with some good news, and get back to work.
