Iran has been quietly conducting one of the largest mass expulsions in modern history. While the world focuses on the US’s migrant crackdowns - more than a million Afghan refugees are being systematically forced out. At one point, over 40,000 Afghans were ejected from the country in just one day.

Tehran cites national security and economic survival as justifications, but human rights groups warn of a humanitarian catastrophe. Women and children who fled Taliban rule and girls who will now be denied education upon return. The forced return raises questions about international law violations, and an ICC arrest warrant has been issued for members of the Taliban’s leadership.
