PIERS MORGAN LIVE: General Wesley Clark Admits US undermined Shah of Iran's Military
All nice and dandy. But the bitter truth is that his troops only a year later stood idle, waiting for decisive orders from high above, whilst gangs of Islamist criminals took virtual ownership of our country, it's people and resources with such speed and ease which took their own breath away.
It was that "nice and dandy" military infrastructure which enabled Iran to defend itself during the Iran Iraq War. Without that well structured military which the Shah trained so that it could even operate without a monarch at the helm our country would have been invaded like Afghanistan. All these brave officers you seem to reduce to "nice and dandy" were highly qualified and trained in some of the best military schools in the world ... those who were not executed contributed to train the volunteers during the most difficult times our nation faced after Saddam's attack on our territory.
I know of many of the Shah's military personal who were arrested and tortured on a regular basis for several years after the revolution but released only to help train the new military recruits and revolutionary guards in order to help defend the country against the west backed foreign invasion of our homeland. They continued to serve their country not because they loved the regime but because they knew that their duty was to defend the country regardless of who was in power.
