I have generally avoided posting on Israeli-Palestinian topics that do not directly have an Iranian angle to them. However, since that issue is now getting a more nuanced treatment in the mass media, and since it is a topic of global import, I am posting here links to videos that have garnered international attention and have recently been aired on PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) TV stations across the US.
"5 Broken Cameras" is an award-winning 2011 Israeli-Palestinian-French documentary that was nominated for best foreign film at the Oscars. It documents non-violent protests against the usurpation of land in the Palestinian village of Bil'in and the Israeli military's response to them. It can be viewed in its entirety until Sep. 25, 2013, at this PBS site. And an interview with the film's directors can be viewed here. There is also a panel discussion on the film here.
"The Law in These Parts" is an award-winning 2011 Israeli documentary on the Israeli military's court system in the occupied West Bank. It can be viewed in its entirety till Sep. 18, 2013, at this PBS site. And an interview with its director can be viewed here. There is also a panel discussion about the film here.
It is noteworthy to contrast the Palestinian resistance depicted in "5 Broken Cameras" to the way such resistance is often portrayed by either the Israeli or Iranian governments. The former portrays Palestinian resistance as essentially homicidal and terroristic, which deserves a violent response, while the latter has focused on and glorified violent Palestinian outbursts and the "martyrdom" of its perpetrators which, at times, have targeted Israeli soldiers and civilians alike.
