The deadly toll of widespread protests and a government crackdown in Iran is becoming clearer. According to the US-based group Human Rights Activists in Iran, it has verified the deaths of over 3,000 people during the first twenty days of nationwide demonstrations against the regime. More than 2,000 people have been seriously injured, and over ten times that number have been arrested. In recent days, the demonstrations appear to have been quelled by the cleric-run regime's heavy deployment of security forces. Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, accused U.S. President Donald Trump of inflicting casualties on the Iranian people during the protests.
