IranWire:

An Iranian court has sentenced a Christian convert to more than eight years in prison on charges including “propaganda against Islamic law.”

Hesamoddin Mohammad Joneydi, 45, was sentenced to seven years and six months for “propaganda activities contrary to Islamic law due to ties with foreign countries,” and seven months for “propaganda against the Islamic Republic,” according to Mohabat News.

The Revolutionary Court in Varamin, presided over by Judge Ashkan Ramesh, issued the sentence based on charges including participating in Christian training courses in Turkey, "attending online and house churches, and promoting Christianity."

Mohammad Joneydi was arrested in late 2024 and held in Ward 209 of Evin Prison before being released on bail.

While Iran’s constitution recognizes Christianity as a protected minority religion, authorities have increasingly cracked down on Christian activities and conversions from Islam.
