Twenty people were found in the first incident on Saturday in the Dungeness area of Kent after a small boat arrived nearby.

 

A Home Office spokesman said the individuals, who claimed to be Iranian and Iraqi nationals, were medically assessed and then transferred to immigration officials to be interviewed.

A Border Force cutter intercepted another small boat on Saturday that was carrying 11 men, who also said they were from Iran and Iraq.

They have been taken to Dover to be transferred to immigration officials for interview.

Another three adults and three children, also claiming to be Iranian and Iraqi, were found by police in Sussex after arriving in a small boat.

The children were taken into the care of social services and the adults handed over to immigration officials to be interviewed.
