Much is being said now about the fecklessness of Reza Pahlavi.
Although I am against Monarchy in principle, if he can Project Manage Iran from Islamic Republic to Secular Democracy, I'm inclined to hold my nose and let him.
As a technically inclined Iranian, and a former professional Project Manager, I see Iran now as a phased series of Projects.
NOTE: These phases necessarily DO NOT have any co-dependencies and can begin simultaneously.
Phase I:
Iranians need to remove Khamenei from power. He is the ugliest Jenga piece that topples the entire tower. With Super K gone all authority he has bestowed upon the "Guardians" instantly disappears.
Yes they will flee. Yes they will take all the money they've stolen. That's OK. We will have the Oil. And we can always go get the money (and them) later.
Phase II:
Announce that the Project Management of Iran has begun. Present the Project outline, the estimated timeline, and the reasons for it, and that progress reports will be made to the public on a daily basis. And that the public is encouraged to offer their input, advice, feedback and comments.
Issue a nationwide amnesty for all former officials. Take control of the military. Task the military with the immediate dismantling of the IRGC while protecting the people.
Take control of ALL IRGC bank accounts, companies, properties, equipment, and weapons. Immediately lock down all nuclear "research" and invite the IAEA to immediatly take over and begin the complete dismantling of Iran's Nuclear weapons and energy program.
Because we don't need Nuclear Energy. We have Natural Gas.
Take control of the Clergy. Confiscate ALL of their accounts and properties. Close down ALL of the Religious Universities in Qom or any other cities. Invite them to collect and offer their ideas on how they think they and their religion can serve and improve people's lives. Try not to laugh.
Amnesty will allow some really bad people to escape justice. For now. Don't worry. Commissions to hear grievances will be set up and on a case by case basis, amnesty will be revoked. And the bad guys caught and appropriately punished.
But don't say this for now. For now, EVERYONE (wink wink) gets amnesty.
Phase III:
Take control of the everyday operation of the country. Turn on the electricity. Turn on the Internet. Turn on the water. If there is any left. Gather all the money that can be found, and start filling the payroll accounts so that the people who work in the government continue working in the government.
Immediately take over and combine ALL THE BANKS into one national government oversighted Bank with a trustworthy International Banker in charge. Cut the official government exchange rate of the dollar in half. Outlaw ALL black market currency sales. And review every single request for bank transfers of money out of the country.
A lot of office polices and procedures created under the ridiculousness of Islam, will immediately be obviously ridiculous. Don't worry. Procedures and policies that are stupid will be fixed. For now everyone show up for work. start making lists of things to be fixed. We will get to it.
Phase IV:
Take control of the Oil and Gas industry. Immediately contact the Global Oil Market and declare Iran is open for business and willing to offer lucrative (but not excessively rapacious) price, and stable delivery guarantees.
Contact GE/Siemens and ask them to bid on 86 brand new top of the line Natural Gas powered electricity generation plants. Increase the offer to 126 plants if they halve the construction time, and agree to a half up front and half later payment plan. Lock in a maintenance and national grid upgrade contract.
Declare that when the plants are operational, from then on, the Iranian people will NEVER PAY FOR ELECTRICITY AGAIN.
Look at the country's industrial sector and follow similar development focused objectives to "Open up Iran for Business".
Look at Iran's agriculture and water crises, reform, refine, fix, repair, invest accordingly.
Phase V:
Declare a Constitutional Crisis, and revoke the Islamic Republic Constitution as null and void by the obvious absence of a new Supreme Leader. Announce that 33 of the best and brightest and smartest and wisest Iranians will be convened to discuss (in widecast public meetings) the key requirements of a NEW Iranian Constitution, with a guideline for the process of how to go about writing it.
This process will also address the important issue of Monarchy, and whether or not we need one, or should have one, and how the Monarchy would work.
After the Process is presented for review and ratification by the people, A Constitutional Convention will be held to finalize the New Iranian Constitution. Which will define the new structure of government, the rules for elections, how local and national representatives are to be chosen, the presidency, and so on.
Sounds good right? Great! Obviously a lot of details (like what to do about paying all those pensions to the people that show up for the weekly Friday Prayers to pretend to chant "Death to America, Death to Israel") are not included in this simplistic overview. But hopefully you get the idea.
Here's the bad news. Realistically, if done right, this will take 10 years. Not 2. That's 10 years of Reza Pahlavi as the country's "Project Manager". And we must not be blind to the fact that the obvious risks and temptation for another Pahlavi dictatorship are somewhat high.
But some kind of "Iran Resurrection Project" is crucial to transitioning from 47 years of abject misery, to ensure the brightest future for Iran and the Iranian people.
As I said, I'm not a fan of Monarchy. But I'll roll the dice that Reza Pahlavi will not become his father.
If you disagree, who do you think should/could run such a project? Because someone has to be that Project Manager.
Sounds like a reasonable plan and methodology. Of course, the devil is in the details and all the practical implementation issues and challenges that come with it, but the bright and civic young population in Iran should be able to take responsibility to assist in carrying this plan through all the hurdles and obstacles while avoiding the monkey wrench throwers to a successful completion!
A democratic system of governance requires leaders and citizens to operate within the law—rule of law is king (not the literal king, the metaphorical king). Citizens must actively participate in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the constitution. It's a two-way street; it takes two to tango. If the citizens resort to violence or disobey the law to express their legitimate grievances, then the leaders have to take away their rights, as has happened prior to 1979 in Iran and today here in Minnesota, USA! The reverse is true as well; government officials must abide by the law too. Whether Reza Pahlavi will become like his father or not depends on the maturity and preparedness of the citizens to operate within the law!
