I have never trusted this guy (I could be wrong) I am still suspicious about his timely departure from Iran. His excuse was of course his wife was ill and he jumped the ship before shia hit the fan. I suspect due to his connections within U.S government he was given heads up about crisis that were coming!  After his departure and untill his recent death, never saw him in an interview or defence of his role or shah or anything, sort of dissapeared from the scene alltogether. 

You may be right ... I don't know but His brother Jahanghir defended the Shah in a rare rebuttal of Abbas Milani's narrative in his best selling biographty :
