Faramarz Sehdehi, a poet and member of the Iranian Writers’ Association, has been sentenced to 22 months in prison by Branch 1 of the Mahshahr Revolutionary Court.

The verdict, issued on April 13, convicted Sehdehi on charges of “propaganda against the Islamic Republic” (7.5 months) and “insulting the Supreme Leader” (15 months).

Under the principle of enforcing the severest punishment, the 15-month sentence will be carried out.

On February 18, Sehdehi was formally charged at Branch 2 of the Behbahan Prosecutor’s Office and released on bail after receiving a summons on February 12.

The poet was initially arrested on January 9, when IRGC intelligence agents detained him at his residence, according to the Hengaw human rights organization.

Though released after several hours, agents searched his home and confiscated his mobile phone and books.

Sehdehi, a Khuzestan-based writer, has previously faced legal action related to his activities.
