Reza Khandan, the husband of prominent human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh, was arrested by Iranian security forces on Friday.

His daughter, Mehraveh Khandan, confirmed the detention in an Instagram post, saying that her father was taken from their home.

Reports suggest the arrest is intended to enforce a six-year prison sentence originally issued in January 2019.

Khandan was sentenced alongside Farhad Meysami, a doctor and civil activist, though the implementation of the sentence had been previously delayed.

The Islamic Republic’s judiciary convicted Khandan on two charges: five years in prison for “assembly and collusion against national security” and an additional one-year term for “propaganda activities against the Islamic Republic.”
