IranWire:
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said during a press briefing on Friday, March 6, that the U.S. government is reviewing “several individuals” as possible leaders for Iran. She added that it would ultimately be Donald Trump who decides when Iran has reached the point of “unconditional surrender.”
Earlier, Donald Trump wrote on his social media platform, “Truth Social,” that there would be no negotiations with the Islamic Republic and no agreement would be reached except under conditions of “unconditional surrender.”
In a subsequent interview with Axios, he clarified that “unconditional surrender” does not necessarily require a formal declaration but could mean the total destruction of the regime’s military capabilities. He stated that he would not back down from demanding the complete surrender of the Islamic Republic’s forces, adding that if they do not surrender, “no commanders will be left.”
According to Ms. Leavitt, more than 50 high-ranking officials of the Islamic Republic have been killed in Israeli and U.S. strikes so far.
Leavitt further told reporters:
“When Trump determines that Iran no longer poses a threat to the United States and the objectives of Operation Epic Fury have been fully met, Iran will effectively be in a state of unconditional surrender, whether they announce it themselves or not.”
She emphasized, however, that there are not many people left in a position to announce such a surrender on behalf of Iran.
On Friday, President Donald Trump said in an interview with CNN that Iran’s leadership has been “neutralized” and that he is searching for a new leader who will “behave well” toward the United States and Israel, even if that person is a religious figure and Iran in the future is not a democratic country.
Ms. Leavitt echoed Trump’s previous timeline, stating that the military campaign in Iran is expected to last between four to six weeks.
