IranWire:
Iran’s judiciary chief threatened legal action against reformist politicians who called for suspending uranium enrichment in exchange for sanctions relief.
Gholamhossein Mohseni-Eje’i said the reformists must “declare their mistake and return from this path” or face prosecution.
The Iran Reform Front issued a statement last week calling on the Islamic Republic to voluntarily suspend uranium enrichment and accept International Atomic Energy Agency oversight for complete sanctions removal.
The group criticized the government’s “tactical negotiation to buy time” policy and called for national reconciliation and structural reforms.
The reformist statement proposed general amnesty for political prisoners, removing restrictions on political figures, and shifting governance focus to national development
Mohseni-Eje’i said even some factions close to the signatories condemned the statement.
“Those who issued this statement out of negligence or special motives must declare their mistake and return from this ugly act,” he said.
The judiciary chief said Tehran’s prosecutor will “act according to his duty under the law,” and judicial proceedings are underway against the statement’s authors.
Iran faces mounting international pressure over its nuclear program, with European nations considering restoring UN sanctions through the snapback mechanism.
