IranWire:

Seven prisoners were executed on Sunday morning at Karaj Central Prison, bringing Iran’s total number of executions in 2025 to at least 722, according to human rights monitors.

The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) identified six of the executed individuals as Sajjad Pourdanesh, Meysam Joudaki, Mohammad Galusi, Reza Bakhtavar, Fariborz Haghi, and Ali Hosseinpour.

All six were sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Courts on drug trafficking charges.

HRANA had reported on Wednesday that four prisoners had been moved to solitary confinement ahead of execution.

The identity of the seventh prisoner has not been disclosed.

Iranian prison officials and judicial authorities have not confirmed the executions.

Human rights data shows that drug-related charges accounted for over 52 percent of Iran’s executions in 2024.

Drug convictions have consistently represented around 40 percent of all executions over the past decade.
