IranWire:

Several major cities across Iran’s Kurdistan province saw widespread strikes on Wednesday in protest of death sentences issued to Kurdish political prisoners, including Pakhshan Azizi and Varisheh Moradi.

The work stoppages, which affected businesses in Sanandaj, Saqqez, Marivan, and Divandareh, came in response to a joint call for action from six Kurdish political parties.

The strikes specifically protested the death sentences handed down to the two female Kurdish political prisoners.

Security forces maintained a heavy presence in Saqqez, with law enforcement personnel deployed across the city’s main thoroughfares, according to IranWire sources.

The IRGC-affiliated Tasnim news agency reported on Wednesday that the Supreme Security Council had ordered a stay of execution for Pekhshan Azizi.

The announcement came amid mounting pressure from the protests.
