IranWire:

A coalition of 14 human rights organizations has condemned what they describe as a systematic campaign targeting Arab activists in Iran’s Khuzestan province, amid reports of widespread arrests and allegations of torture.

The organizations said that Iranian authorities are attempting to “undermine the cultural, social, and political identity” of the region’s Arab population through mass detentions.

Detainees have been moved to unknown locations with no information provided about their status, raising concerns about potential abuse.

The organizations’ statement comes as new details emerged about the torture of Mokhtar Alboushoukeh, a prisoner in Ahvaz’s Sheiban prison.

According to sources, Alboushoukeh endured 12 days of abuse at a cyber police detention center.

He reported being repeatedly struck in the abdomen, despite informing officers of a severe hernia condition.

Over 19 Arab artists, poets, and social activists have been detained in recent operations across Khuzestan, with approximately 100 others summoned by intelligence agencies, according to rights monitors.
