Crown Prince Reza must avoid creating a coalition or government in exile at this juncture. It would be pre-mature and could backfire as it did in Georgetown.
What the Prince needs to do right now is to stick to symbolic gestures and stay on the message. He and his team can reach out towards personalities in the public or private sectors willing to play a part in a future transitional government but this has to be done behind the scenes. As a matter of fact that was King Juan Carlos' approach when he prepared Spain for a transition to democracy. Right now the revolutionary zeal is spearheaded by the monarchists whose narrative and political stance has successfuly become mainstream.
A coalition with other political organizations and personalities will create unneccessary conflict and confuse the general message we want to send the world. The monarchist slogans are no more a taboo and they constitute a subversive threat to the very existence of the regime.
Once the regime falls, other political narratives and preferences will be welcome and should be encouraged so that people can get to make their own decision on the nature of the future democratic system of government.
History shows that revolutions succeed when regime's reach a tipping point. This is usually carried out by the movement which represents the majority. Today the majority stands with the monarchists. As such the Prince needs to surf on this support and remain above political meddling.
Once the regime falls civil society will naturally bring forth potential voices of leadership from across all political ideologies and people will get to choose.
A coalition will make sense then and not now.
Having said that and having observed Crown Prince Reza eversince he entered the political arena, I am nearly certain he will do the opposite and will seek to create some form of a government in exile.
That would be mistake.
