The Honourable Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister;
Senator the Honourable Penny Wong, Foreign Minister,
The recent Iranian protests are driven by a quest for freedom, human rights, and prosperity but are triggered by rapidly worsening economic situation in Iran. This is in part due to the sanctions imposed to curb the criminal Islamic Republic regime.
The responsibility, however, falls upon the repressive policies of the Islamic Republic against its own people and the western world. The gross mismanagement of the nation by officials of the corrupt regime are stuff of legends. Inflation in Iran has surged to 42.2% severely impacting household budgets. People are sleeping in graves, cardboard boxes, and bus stations. They eat out of trash cans. The Iranian rial has fallen to a record low of 1.42 million to the US dollar having fetched one US dollar for 7 rials in the 1970s.
Summary executions and arbitrary imprisonment is more the norm than the exception.
Corruption and cronyism is stifling and a proud oil rich, mineral rich nation, once a peaceful empire is reduced to a pariah nation.
We want Iran back, taking her natural place in amongst the nations of the world.
We want acknowledgment that the Islamic Republic does not represent Iranians.
We want acknowledgement that our aim is regime change not some token gestures such as easing of the “morality” laws.
Prior uprisings have met with western indifference or no more than lip service. The protesters were then rounded up and dispensed with.
What is different this time is that Prince Reza has emerged as the undisputed leader of the opposition. Most European nations, Canada, the United States and virtually most other countries have isolated the Islamic Republic in Iran.
Your leadership in ejecting the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic is commendable and encouraging.
The militant arm of the regime, the IRG is recognised as a terrorist group by many nations.
We seek your support by also following suit.
Please disengage with the Islamic Republic. A free Iran will be a much better trading partner. The Iranian diaspora has enjoyed Australian hospitality, we have assimilated and shown in return our gratefulness to our new nation. But lurking amongst the diaspora are also Islamic Republic criminals. We hope they can be identified and deported to face appropriate legal action.
We need acknowledgement and news coverage.
Please help our cause.
With warm wishes for the new Year
Sincerely yours
Dr James Younessi
