Iranian Rights Lawyer Meets Imprisoned Husband After 5 Months

IranWire: Iranian human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh said she was able to meet briefly with her imprisoned husband after five months.

Reza Khandan was sentenced to six years in prison in 2018 alongside physician and rights activist Farhad Meysami for producing and distributing protest badges reading “I oppose the mandatory hijab."

He began serving his sentence in December 2024.

Sotoudeh wrote on Instagram that Khandan was transferred to a hospital after two months due to digestive problems.

She said the transfer was delayed because he refused to wear prison clothes and handcuffs.

“It was a precious opportunity to see Reza. Nima spent minutes happily with his father and dear Farhad, and our dear friend was also with us as always,” Sotoudeh wrote, referring to their son and Meysami.

She said Khandan remained calm and cheerful despite difficult conditions and asked about his friends’ well-being.

Sotoudeh added that the brief meeting does not replace his legal right to weekly visits and noted that prison officials continue to ban their regular legal meetings.
