But this is beside the point. What matters is that not much happens as the result. The cops, seeing that it's his house, walk away from the domestic altercation. Hardly any consequence is endured. I imagine what happens now. If he doesn't get shot immediately, he'd be in one of those private prisons that make you work for fifty cents a day under white fluorescent tubes. I don't really know the wage, the work he turns down would be dream jobs in comparison. But he'd never get that far. One hit of pot mixed with fentanyl and he'd be folded over in an alley getting eaten by coyotes.

The revolt of the new generation is subliminal by comparison, like the first mammals under the scaly feet of the machinery of the state, vigilant to the surveillance and avoiding the millions of pitfalls that awaits a loud mouth in the age of social media: a quiet subversion by dodging and surviving, danger on all fronts, in particular if relaxed and let go. Ideas are fact checked and buried deep. A facade of normalcy is maintained like a mask to the microphone and camera that follows your subtle eye movements and subvoiced anger.

In the age of the irrefutable paper trail, it is foolish to state your mind. Not at the street level, not at big corporations, not even as aides to running mates. It is suicidal to point the finger, to force your way, to sign your name with date, to get into a relationship, to love, to defy. It is also futile to walk away, to change your mind, think at all except making money. Even then the wolves will be upon you in a jiffy.

And this is in civilized country. Imagine elsewhere..
