The six-year mandate of Javaid Rehman, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, came to an end in July. Since human rights continue to be widely violated by the government in Iran, Mai Sato, a Japanese lawyer and social scientist, has taken over as the new UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, succeeding Javaid Rehman.
