Stop and Listen. You'll Hear It.

The stars in the sky tell a story – and it’s a beautiful one because each multi-faceted element dovetails into the next. The planets move across a canopy of frescos that depict the deepest, sweetest elements of what it means to be a human being – and not just that – but also what it means to be alive.
Before we roamed the earth, there were animals, dinosaurs, and creatures beyond our imagination. All of these beings looked up at the night sky. Over billions of years, shapes, stories, myths – and rich philosophies – emerged. The planets and stars – like crystal mirrors – reflected back to us something deeply familiar and resonant.
No wonder when someone speaks of the stars and their stories, my ears perk up with interest and curiosity. Our ancestors have been gazing at them since before we were human – since before we had the capacity to wonder what they were. From day one, this sparkling display has been there – moving, changing, and evolving with us – from one generation to the next.
That's why we can’t talk about the conjunction of Jupiter and Pluto that’s happening now (or the fact that Mars turns direct today) without remembering everything that came before. Not just the movements of the planets, but the movements of our feelings and desires. The wishes. The yearnings. The losses, triumphs, and mistakes.
There’s a book called “Love Is Letting Go of Fear.” Olivia Newton-John sang a song by the same name, and there’s so much happening right now that I’m drawn to this song.
Mars going backward through Aries the last two months (and mercury in retrograde) felt like we were swimming against rip currents when all we wanted to do was move forward.
Mars wants to fight for the outcome he wants. But the rip currents were pulling us back – making us fear that we were going all the way back to Pisces, where everything we fought for could be lost. Circumstances forced us to relax and let go. To put our hands up and surrender. We may have needed to own some serious mistakes.
“I messed up.”
“I'm not enough.”
“I ruined my life.”
"I'm no good."
These are the ideas that Pluto latches onto like a tick. Feeding off them. Dissolving them. Disintegrating them. In this process, the problems and fears got bigger throughout the year – Jupiter conjunct Pluto – like a tick expands with blood until it bursts – and eventually dies.
And then, after all that process, we can heal.
Pluto's work is deep and slow. As the poison gets drawn from the wound, we feel it, relive it. Sometimes we have to BE it to a certain, animalistic degree – kicking, screaming, fighting, and being scared out of our minds – until it all comes out, and we can finally sit beneath the trees and do what we wanted to do in the first place: Love.
Olivia Newton-John sings in her song, “You’re always haunted by the love you’ve lost. You’re scared that you’ll forever pay the cost. You believe this is the bitter end. Better lonely than be hurt again.”
But she doesn’t leave us there… “Remember, the wounded bird still sings. Remember, that faith has tiny wings. And love is letting go of fear. Love is letting go of doubt. Love is letting go of the chains that tie your spirit down. And love is letting go of pain. Love is learning how to dance inside the light again.”
Venus, the most beautiful point in the sky, is singing a beautiful song of peace and love right now. Stop and listen. You’ll hear it – a jewel in the rough that was polished and perfected over the course of billions of years – just like us.
Don't forget why you're here.
