Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum has expressed her government's support for Panama after threats from U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.

On Sunday, he said that Washington should try and regain control over the Panama Canal. Trump accused Panama of overcharging US-owned ships for passing through. Panama's president has hit back, insisting control of the canal is non-negotiable.

The Mexican president -- who's got her own issues with the incoming US administration over Trump's tariffs threat -- said the US had no claim to waterway.
