BBC Verify has spoken to people from Iran who say they’ve been increasing surveilled online, leading to arrests, threats and beatings.

Iran stepped up its surveillance after the death of Mahsa Amini in 2022. Protests erupted across the country and thousands of people were arrested.

Court documents reveal how the Iranian authorities are building cases using people’s social media posts to charge them for “propaganda against the state” and how the state may be relying on surveillance to catch people.
