Ebrahim Raisi -- the current head of the justice system -- claimed victory in last Friday’s presidential election in Iran.

Raisi’s inauguration in August will transfer the last major seat of power Iran’s moderates had back to conservatives -- giving a country already ruled by a Supreme Leader a kind of second throne.

This seems to be exactly what the regime wanted: it assured Raisi’s victory by banning progressive challengers from the race.
