Christmas Morning on the Beach

At the seashore
A man plays a trumpet alone
And I hear his sound
From the coastal walk:

“Trumpeter!
Stop Blowing
Into your brass pipe.
Let the waves
Talk on your behalf.”

It is Christmas morning.
The sun is rising
And the fog is burning.
Children are still asleep in their homes
And their gifts are intact
Under Christmas trees.

But the homeless Santa
Is still blowing into his pipe
Oblivious to me and the waves.

صبحِ كريسمس در ساحل

در كنار دريا
مردي تنها ترومپت مي زند
و من نواي او را
از گذرگاه ساحلي مي شنوم:

"ترومپتزن!
بس كن دميدن
در نايِ برنجينَت.
بگذار امواج
بجاي تو سخن بگويند."

صبحِ كريسمس است.
آفتاب دارد مي دمد
و مِه دارد فرو مي ريزد.
در خانه ها كودكان هنوز در خوابند
و هديه هاشان زير درختهاي كريسمس
دست نخورده باقي مانده اند."

اما سانتاي بي خانه*
بي اعتنا به من و موجها
همچنان در ناي خود مي دمد.
