The following is a reasoable statement to make:  Not ONE single Iranian leftist group would trade Shah for the ayatollahs today....not one.  Even and especially hezb Tudeh, after having suffered the most horrid crackdown among the leftists. would not do this again. 

I talk to Tudehis a lot...not here of course.  We don't have one. It's preposterous to even bring up this question to them. They have largely acknowledged that Eskandari's approach would have made more sense. And they never suffered this many original members' death and destrucntion from decades ago in his jail.

I wouldn't believe for a second anyone on this site or elsewhere of any opposition group including Tudehis that they still prefer to have gone through this disaster just to get rid of a US puppet.
