NY Daily:

The Wall Street Journal has fired one of its leading reporters over his ties to an Iranian-born aviation magnate accused of corruption.

Jay Solomon, the newspaper’s chief foreign affairs correspondent, had a key source in Farhad Azima, a U.S. citizen tied to the Reagan administration's Iran-Contra scandal.

Solomon was offered a 10 percent stake in Azima’s private intelligence firm Denx LLC, though he said in a statement Wednesday that he “entered into a world I didn’t understand.”

“I never entered into any business with Farhad Azima, nor did I ever intend to. But I understand why the emails and the conversations I had with Mr. Azima may look like I was involved in some seriously troubling activities,” the journalist said in a statement.

Lawyers for Azima, a major donor to Democratic candidates who has lived in the Kansas City area for decades, said that documents obtained by the Associated Press, including a March 2015 agreement where Solomon had a stake in Denx, were stolen by hackers.
