A suicide bomber rammed a vehicle filled with explosives into a convoy of foreign forces on Wednesday in Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar, officials said, without confirming the number of casualties dead or injured.

Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, Taliban spokesman, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it took place near an Afghan intelligence quick reaction force base in the Shor Andam area of Daman district.

Meanwhile, the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) group claimed responsibility for a suicide attack at a packed Shia mosque in the western Afghan province of Herat that killed dozens of people and injured scores.

Al Jazeera's Jennifer Glasse reports from Kabul on a series of attacks in the past 24 hours.
